I thought that the 32 channels of MIDI in might be a manageable trade off for faster processor since he was using only the sequencer in the rs-7000, which has quite a few MIDI outs if i recall properly.
The higher bits also depends what type of sounds you are doing, and if you are using the onboard effects also, but from the OPs post it sounds like he enjoys the easier programming of the program edit buttons, and will need the extra bits because he's doing natural sounds with it, and will need the dynamic range that higher bit converters can provide.
There are a bunch of form factors of these, each with its own niche and peculiarities.
I use a xx-7, but have a few of these 1u rack modules too.
