Matt, I have Ableton, but I don't use it. I'm using Cubase 6 just about full-time, since I love it's midi features. (BTW ... go over to KVR and look for Vortex by Home Grown Sounds. It's a multitimbral (12 sequencers, each assignable to any midi channel with timing up to 32 bars) MIDI VSTi. It's kind of along the line of Consequence, but seems a whole lot friendlier to anyone trying to sequence hardware from a DAW.) I suspect the latency might be a midi hardware issue. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/Oct02/articles/pcmusician1002.asp http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/dec07/articles/cubasetech_1207.htm I had a hard time going x64 because I knew it would obsolete my MOTU Midi Time Piece parallel 32 bit hardware ... but I did. Through the above articles I learned that Cubase, which I was already using, had a special 'linear time base' proprietary buffering system incorporated into its MIDEX line of midi patch bays. Then about 6 months ago there was an announcement on one of the Steinberg forums that a company engineer had developed some 'unsupported' x64 drivers for the discontinued MIDEX line. I promptly bought one off ebay and one off craigs. They aren't as versatile as the MOTUs with multiple routing options through software, but they are solid. BTW, regarding your suggestion of a 2K as an alternative. In your opinion, the 24bit audio and faster processor of the 2.5K is not that big of an advantage? I've been mulling between the two, had pretty much decided on the 2.5K for the above reasons and recently got outbid for one. So, I got time to think it through again. Any input would be appreciated! The only thing you must do is disengage the internal sequencer from the midi machine messages sent from Ableton (or any DAW) when you start the sequencer in the 2.5K ... otherwise it will trigger the loops instead of the sounds. I did this with my PK7 to use it as a sound module, instead of sequencer. I don't recall the exact terms used in the manual by EMU at the moment, but I think I just browsed the index until I saw something about 'external' or 'modules.' I do remember that is was a simple matter to flip through a couple of screens and change a value. > > > >The other part is simply (or not, sometimes!) to set up the bank and patch numbers within Ableton to send the selection messages to the 2.5K.
