Re: [xl7] how to use the proteus 2500 as a sound module

Do you have a manual? The only thing you must do is disengage the internal sequencer from the midi machine messages sent from Ableton (or any DAW) when you start the sequencer in the 2.5K ... otherwise it will trigger the loops instead of the sounds. I did this with my PK7 to use it as a sound module, instead of sequencer. I don't recall the exact terms used in the manual by EMU at the moment, but I think I just browsed the index until I saw something about 'external' or 'modules.' I do remember that is was a simple matter to flip through a couple of screens and change a value.

The other part is simply (or not, sometimes!) to set up the bank and patch numbers within Ableton to send the selection messages to the 2.5K. Or you can set them by hand on the synth.

How complicated this will be depends upon how sophisticated a setup you want. I don't know how creating or setting up patch maps work in Ableton, but I imagine it can be tedious if you have to do it from scratch.

Subject: [xl7] how to use the proteus 2500 as a sound module

Here is the deal, I have a yamaha rs7000 and I would really like to use it as my main sequencer. I also have ableton live. I really enjoy the acoustic sounds from the proteus. I don't really have alot of time on my hands to learn the sequencer, even though I know that it is rock solid.

How then could I use the proteus as a simple rack sequencer? That way I could quickly lay things out on the yamaha or ableton and quickly work the proteus into my setup.

Thanks in advance.
