You can use E-Mu Sysex Remote Control to simulate the on/off status of the track/enable/trigger buttons. If you had an external device sending sysex I think you should be able to do what you describe. I played around with an arduino last summer with the idea of creating a customizable midi controller. I could see writing a script that would take knobs or sliders and creating BtsBusy and BtsVari type functions to turn E-Mu sequencer tracks [user patterns] on and off based on a custom algorithm.
