Maybe I've been lucky, but I've never had a Command Station crash on me.
Then again, I've never really gone beyond hobbyist noodling and haven't
really used song mode all that much.

That is indeed weird. I wonder if that only happens when using the ROM
"Default v1.0" patch. Have you tried using the V2.0 blank preset from the
Blank V2.0 preset Banks.zip
