the song mode bugs(bugs, and more bugs grrrr)/limitations and propensity to crash make it difficult to work with on a professional and detailed level. i've never owned an mpc but from what i've read in these aspects they are quite succinct compared to the e-mu? unless again my machine is faulty(just tell me it's my machine so i can buy another one already!

Maybe I've been lucky, but I've never had a Command Station crash on me. Then again, I've never really gone beyond hobbyist noodling and haven't really used song mode all that much.

speaking of which:

i use the command station for sequencing a sampler and recently started setting all of those tracks to the blank default preset at the end of the preset list before saving. but after reloading the pattern later, the presets are switched back to their original settings, even though there is midi data saved to the track. the channel routings are as i left them, but the presets are reverted back.

however, i go to the first of those tracks and switch the preset back to the blank default preset and somehow magically by doing this all of the rest of those sampler tracks switch back to default as well. weird eh?

what's weirder is, once i do this and revert the tracks to default preset, if i revert to saved pattern and reload the pattern i won't have to do it again! they will be already all on blank default presets. so only after rebooting the cs will i have to revert the tracks back.

or maybe you can't save a track with no preset on it, like you can save whatever preset you want to a track and it will remember it but not with the last default one?

That is indeed weird. I wonder if that only happens when using the ROM "Default v1.0" patch. Have you tried using theV2.0 blank preset from theBlank V2.0 preset Banks.zip in the Files area?
