RE: [xl7] my PX-7 for sale

2011-05-11 by Mach FoX

he110 group - great tips/info here.

James-
I WANT it! looks great.
I dont care for any roms- and would just like to use for sequencing external hardware.
my yellow(horrible) xl7 with 4roms has to be covered in studio at all times -unless of course i am working it.
....so maybe that one will be up for sale if James contacts me!?

Subject: Re: [xl7] my PX-7 for sale

Just to add my $0.02 to this debate on what is a fair price for a ROM-less PX-7. With custom LCDs I can see perhaps someone going for it, but my personal opinion is that the only things really going for the PX were the ROM and the fact that OS 2 shift functions are silkscreened on the panel. I had a PX for a while and thought it to be the ugliest of all of my kit - that not quite silver drab gray finish just doesn't work for me. I prefer the bright and cheery orange-yellow of my XL-7, which I got with 4 ROMs installed for $700 with free shipping. Two less ROMs (sold on eBay for $400) and one added Composer ROM ($100) later and I've got an XL-7 with three ROMs (XL-7, MP-7, and Composer) for a total of $400.

Obviously James is not trying to appeal to people like me who are always searching for bargains. There's a market for upscale "custom" kit, where people have added wood end cheeks, or custom backlit mod wheels, or custom displays (as here), or even hack 'n' rack conversions of keyboards. Buyers in that market seem far too willing to pay a lot of money for the extra glam factor. James is right, he'll get his $450, and it's likely the buyer will be someone who actually considers that to be a sweet deal.
