Re: [xl7] Re: rack ears

2011-03-03 by James Ulibarri

I have some being made that are exactly made to spec as the originals.  Same material and same thickness. I took my originals in and they mocked them up exactly the same.  There is nothing terribly special about the originals.  Each rack ear is actually two pieces that are welded together to make one rack ear and then powder coated black.

Hey thanks. I would still be interested in getting a 'real' pair if they become available. My solution is not the prettiest, but perfectly functional for horizontal placement in the case.

Funny because I didn't even have a hammer to bend the edges - I just bashed them on a step with the back of a monkey wrench. DIY clearly not my forte, however necessity being the mother of invention....
:)

I can route the whole mix through the multiband, or apply individual compression to 2 mono channels (Snare, percussion, etc.). Even better, this setup allows parallel or 'New York' style compression. I can mirror all or some of the drums on a seperate track kit, then bus that track through the compressor at extreme settings, and mix back with the original signal. Big drums! Easily done in software too.

So it's  possible to apply a variable amount of FX to each send, then parallel compressing the wet output with interesting results. I find the CS FX pretty weak overall, but try this with a teeny-tiny amount of reverb before the compressor, or throw in a distorted flange or delay. There's gold to be had in tweaking those busses.
