Anyone here use Song Mode? Questions...
2002-03-21 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com
Well last night was my first time attempting to use Song Mode on the XL-7 for arranging a complete tune, and I've got a couple questions for anyone that uses this more than I do. Again, this is my first time trying to compose this way, so I'm just checking to see if I'm doing something wrong here, or if other users are seeing these too:
1. ; Sometimes my mute settings would be completely reversed from what I KNOW I saved them as. This happened to me a couple of times. Sometimes the mute settings for the pattern would used, sometimes nothing would be saved as muted for that Step. Other times none of the mute settings would be used! I couldn't reproduce this every time in a predictable way, but it happened wrongly at least every other time. I'd have to erase the song and start over. Finally got it to save right last night eventually, but I don't know if it stayed that way this AM.
2. There were some times when I would select the Song I was working on, and right away before pressing any buttons the Save/Copy light would blinking telling me to save the song. I didn't change anything, or even touch the XL-7 other than to select the Song. True the Revert To Saved would clear it, but it kind of worries me that this is happening. Any ideas on what's changing in the Song that would be causing this? I know the same thing happens in Pattern mode, with the Preset on 1A showing an asterisk next to it, but this isn't the case in Song mode.
3. Also, I don't know if it's just my XL-7 or not, but when in Song Mode, everything becomes 'sluggish' for lack of a better word. Selecting a Pattern or access the menus produces a slight pause, sometimes you can see very quickly see it say < on the LCD, even though I'm not selecting another song. Sometimes after pressing the Play button there's a distinct pause before playback begins too. This is a fairly small song, so I don't think it's a memory issue..
Anyway, if anyone's got any ideas or similar stories, I'd love to hear them!
