It's funny you say that. Because I had the PadKontrol too and loved the pads. They feel the best out there.
I didn't like the white and clear cosmetics but it was a good feeling pad. And you're right again, the midi implementation was weird
or the shipping software left me hanging. And I am not one to get into any modern day Korg stuff as I am not a fan of Korg.
But that is one decent unit.
If I am gonna skip the pads, I may just look at a Proteus 2500 and get an Akai MPD-32 with pad sensitivity kit from that guy on Ebay.

I wish Roger Linn would get off his butt and finally release the Linn Drum II and save me the hassle of all this.

Hi James,
I have the same experience with pads on my PX-7. Don't like the
sensitivity on this unit no matter the sensitivity setting in setup. I
found rsolution in my PadKONTROL which has excellent expression and
goes well with CS, both via usb connected, and direcrtly via midi,
which is even better option if you want to keep everything off the
computer/system. It;s great for live use bcause you don't even have to
touch cs because you can pre-setup 16 scenes on PK.
I know this is extra money but PK can be really used for other
instruments, and vst plugins which is super intuitive-as soon as you
learn about it.
However, I have yet to find the way to change programs wihin program
category from PadKONTROL. I'm sure you can do it just by applying
sysex command to the special buttons on PK. This is the only thing I
couldn't handle on PK though. Enything else is a breeze to me. peace
