I just did a quick test. When rechannelize is set to "on record" mode, the record light must be on (and you must be in realtime or step mode, not grid mode) in order to hear the CCs externally. You are right about wiring affecting performance results. I have been using P2500 Port B out to the XL-1 to slave the midi clocks, so that's why I used the method I did. However, if you have any piece of gear hooked up to the Command Station's out, it should work (as long as it responds to CCs and you have the transmitting and receiving CCs set to match. Also, for convenience (since I already had my "16 Track to Ext" template), I used that. I did not test it with using MultiB, but I don't see what that wouldn't work. If so, and you have several pieces of external gear each set to operate only on a few channels, I believe you could set up the programmable knobs to control different pieces of external gear. BTW, I didn't mention this, but as for channel/destination, my programmable knobs are set to Basic / seq and I only tested one channel using an audition riff on the XL-1. With the programmability of the knobs, there are alot more possible combinations and permutations. For example, the top row (MidiA-MidiD) could be set to internal say for example for live performance, the next row (MidiE-MidiH) could be set to control the same parameters, but on an external E-Mu, etc. Considering that these are are store in multis, the possibilities are staggering, depending on your gear and setup. As for using external CCs going into your E-Mu, I haven't tested that today as far as recording, though I routinely send CCs from an external keyboard to my E-Mus. Is it correct that you are sending external CCs to the E-Mu (for the purposes of recording them) and then sending them from the sequencer to the external gear? I would have to set some things up to see how that works. Steve --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "bobsvitilla" <bobsvitilla@...> wrote: > > I have a similar problem with my setup. I think the issue is with how I have my midi routing setup. I'm working on so much crap at once with multiple pieces of gear, I have not fully solved the problem. My set up is a bit different because I am using external gear that sends midi CCs and trying to record those tweaks rather than assigning a knob on the command station. > > For now I have to set the track to an internal sound, record the knob tweaks to be able to hear the tweaks while I make them, then switch the track send back to external and play the sequence and hope the tweaks sound the way I want. > > I think, It has to do with the fact that the midi in on the command station is set to rechannelize the info (I have mine set to rechannelize on record). The settings I have to use to avoid a midi loop prevent the knob tweaks being heard during recording. But I can hear tweaks on internal sounds when CCs are sent from external devices while recording. Thus, the rediculous work around I've been currently using. Other settings that could allow the tweaks to be heard during record will cause a midi loop. The only other option is to turn off the rechannelize midi in and work a solution from there. I have not given much time exploring this. After I get bogged down with tech shit for too long I just want to get some music made. So, I have to walk away from the problem and come back to it another day. Otherwise, it stops being fun and that's what I'm in it for. > > --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, James Ulibarri <jamesulibarri@> wrote: > > > > That's not true.
