Re: [xl7] XL7 - how expensive?

The sounds are in the rom chips, which are interchangeable with proteus 2k chips. For example, u can put any rom in any box, i.e. proteus 2k chip in an xl7 or xl7 chip in a proteus 2k or xl7 chip in a px-7. Each box will fit 4 chips. So for example I have px-7 which came with Proteus drums rom. I added xl7, beat garden, world expedition chips for a total of 4 chips.

The xl7 rom chip is available for $50 at epr electronics. The mp-7 chip is also available at epr.

The px7 supposedly has higher build quality but that will be disputed here. It also only comes with os 2 on it. Which means u don't have to deal with upgrading OS via MIDI.

Because of these reasons and the rarity of px-7 chip, I believe it is the box to get IF u can find one for a good deal.

I wouldn't pay more than 400 for a command station unless it had rare chips in it and was super clean.

Since you already have a Proteus 2k you can put up to 4 chips in it, and link the two devices with MIDI to be able to control sounds from 8 chips.

Hope this helps.
