The XL-7 cannot sync to external MIDI clock. I spoke with Emu support and it's a known issue (how could it not be?) and supposed to be getting fixed with the next OS. You can't use this box in a live situation, unless all you want to do is play back one pattern (and the box must be MIDI clock master.) It's such a great synth/seq -- too bad it has this terrible flaw.
