Its really just a menu item that when you press a button to execute the randomize function, it creates a new preset from the ROMs you have installed. On the P2500 its the last menu item in the save/copy set of menus. To find out how it works, the best thing to do is to press it. If you like the result, be sure to save it to user memory. I have come up with a few that I like over the years, in fact I have a one minute song I did based on a randomized preset a few years ago. I have had in the back of my mind the idea to create a Parametizer - basically a preset generator (like the randomize function) that lets you set preferences (ranges, specific choices) for the parameters. So, for example, if I wanted, I could set up a Parametizer template to create a bank of 128 presets each with a slow attack and a long release, with a specified number of layers, a subset of the any of the parameters we have [eg filter type, ROM instrument, etc.], and stored preferences for controller knob assignments [MidiA-MidiP]. As an antecent to this software, I created Syxer, a windows utility to display a preset in hex, to display the presets in a bank of 128, and a few other things. Recently, I modified it to be able to convert the ROM_ID for all presets in a bank to a specific ROM (e.g, taking a bulk dump from the P2K ROM and changing the ROM_ID so they work on the P2500 ROM. Anyhow, if you haven't used the randomizer funtion on your e-mu, I recommend giving it a try. Just make sure you have some empty user spots to save the results in case you come up with some neat presets. --Steve --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, Matt <somatt@...> wrote: > > Anyone have more info on the random functions? >
