Re: [xl7] Custom Roms... - Any updates?

2010-09-13 by Bob S.

Another one going on moderation.....that's 3 this month.....I was hoping we could control our tempers better......

James - Tomtel's message was delayed because I moderated it and could not get to it right away.....he actually sent it a few hours ago. I edited it so you would not take offense but his response could have been expected by the tone of your initial comment directed at him.

This bickering needs to stop so we can proceed with what the group is really here for....the exchange of information on the command stations and related gear, productive use of the equipment, discussion of related topics and the creation of music !

I apologize to the rest of the group for these members, we don't need to hear this type of argument, it is counter-productve.....

TomTel wrote this message to me personally about 10 minutes ago and I told him to eat one and take a hike. Now he sends the message to the whole group. What a lazy weasle. You obviously have no shame. A few weeks ago you start beefing with Matt, and now you're starting in with me now. Dude, you don't want to get into with me.. Trust me. What's the point of your email really besides bragging about the trash in your studio and the software your use and how blessed you are. No one could give a fly rats ass, man. For someone who doesn't want to start an arguement you sure talk a lot of trash.

Mostly for James, this is more for your info + a little more.... I've never made illegal copies of anything. It has been years since I have bought a song, because I make my own music to listen to, but when I do buy Mp3's, I buy from itunes. They allow you to have it on 5 computers with your account, so Why would I make copies?. To sell them? Absolutely NOT...., I'm not desperate, especially not to profit from other artists talents. It sounds to me like you have a big chip on your shoulder, and you are mad at something. Don't be mad at me, you don't know me. I never intend to hurt anybody by what I say on this forum., I was simply saying I wouldn't try to make copies of the ROM's. It just doesn't seem like it would make sense. I would think that the Flash ROMs cost a lot, because they can be rewritten many times, just like Dvd-Rw cost more than Dvd-R.... But I also said, I use the sounds that come on the ROMs. Then I might? tweak them a little to sound better. In Protools, Logic, Cubase, Motu, etc... It serves a purpose for me, for instance, I have 2 Akai Mpc 2500's hooked up to 2 Digidesign Midi I/Os with multiple modules connected. I have an endless supply of sounds from Emu, Roland, Access, Yamaha, Korg. etc. which is so much fun for me. I enjoy what I do because I have been blessed. But I don't depend on it for any income. I am also here to learn from you all, and also to help if I can, I just love it that much. So think what you will, and good luck.

Ps. do gooders always do good. :)) because what goes around ..... also I said PX-7, MP-7, and XL-7 were the same, to me.... but don't want to start another argument.

There isn't one person on this forum who hasn't copied a CD, vhs movie tape, ripped an MP3, DVD, etc or photo copied
a document at Kinkos or your company copy machine. Spare us all the do-gooder act. Moving on, now if someone was to figure out a way to
burn these roms by the hundreds, and slap Emu stickers on them and sell them on Ebay,.... then hey that's a little different.
But making a back up (10+ year old cheese rom) at your discretion for your own use wouldn't make me lose any sleep.
First I need something worth backing up. In modern Electronica hardly any of those sounds are worth two squirts let alone one. I mean you gotta work hard
to mask that cheese.

Go to EastWest or Big Fish Audio and you tell me if any of these sounds still hold any water. I mean if you're purposely trying to make 90's techno
than that's one thing. But if you haven't moved on and think these sounds still fly, than that's a whole 'nother ball of wax. Oh I use one ROM alright...
and that's for the metronome.

Truely, I was only trying to inform of where to get the Flash ROM. I, myself wouldn't know where to begin to copy one, I think instead of copying the ROMs, they would be more for a producer or an artist to create their (own sound) and keep them hidden for their album(s), with their (own sound). It just wouldn't be cost effective. Not to say that people haven't done it, I wouldn't try to do it.
I think that there are sounds that are awesome and some that are "cheesy", but I still have all of them. You never know when you will need that "cheesy" sound to make an awesome track sound that much better. Good Luck

I think the samples on a couple of the E-mu ROMs are quite nice, but
overall, I don't think they are worth copying, legal or not - if you
have 32MB (or x4) of space available, fill it with samples that tickle
your ear fully and really deliver for what you want to do.

Just a few months ago there was an extensive discussion regarding the
nature of the FLASH SIMMs on this list.

cheers,
Ian
