16 control knobs - sysex ?

I am interested in controlling a Yamaha TX-7 or Akai S5000. I know it throws CC's like crazy, but not sure about Sysex messages.
Now if it does, is there Midi Learn to latch parameters quickly without getting all crazy into the hex/dex stuff.
I think I already know the answer to that regarding any sysex stuff being painless and easy. Forget about it.
I know the Behringer knob boxes, Mackie C4 Pro, Peavy pc1600 allowed for this kind of think but I am not sure about the Command Stations.
I may be asking too much from the little guy.
