Emu XL-7 & MP-7 User's Group

Unfortunately, the XL-7 can only record into one track at a time. There is, however, two workarounds.

First is to get familiar with Multi tracks. These allow you to have 16 channels worth of data in a single track. Perhaps this might even be better than limiting yourself to 16 MIDI channels across the 16 sequencer tracks.

Alternatively, if the end result is really that you want stuff spread across multiple tracks, you can record it into one track (probably requiring Multi - I can't remember) and then use Copy to copy the track to the clipboard, then use the "Explode Clipboard Channels to Tracks" command. This will take what you copied and divide it up by channel into your tracks.

Let's take a step back for a second though - what exactly are you trying to do? If you're really recording multitrack stuff (like from another sequencer) than you're best off with the explode command. If you're really just trying to use your external keyboard to switch recording channels, than really, turning rechannelize on and letting the XL-7 do the switching is the way to go.
