We lose interest on the > melody. i'll let you in to a secret. when i record music for 'among the weeds' i have an obvious loop going thats usually processed to take out some of the bottom end frequencies and make it sound grainy. i then layer on a drum machine with perfect timing & continuous velocities. the last bit is playing the roland td10ex over the top, usually all the way through from a keyboard or my drumtree stand-up drum trigger kit. this is quantised but let loose... the brain hears the loop & --knows-- its a loop. the brain also hears the drum machine and --knows-- its a loop so the 'real sounding' drums on the top --must-- be real right? bingo : fooled the listener in to believing we have a real drummer... its all smoke 'n' mirrors. this is strengthened by me playing the drumtree live too... using patch chords to add some randomness is a good way to fool the brain... };-) moose @ midizoo
