The Play button engages the transport, regardless of sequencer mode
(except in step edit). The LED in the button will be illuminated when the
sequence is running.

This is as close as it explains it. 
 My off/on button is flaking out also. If kicking it off with the
switch and no countdown isn't damaging I'm more than happy to use the
switch since everything's hooked up to a power strip.
