Re: [pk6] Re: HELP!!!!!!!!

2008-07-17 by Bob S.

A couple of things...you assume the PK-6 or P2500 ROM is backwards compatible with the P1000....it is a good possibilty that the P1000 OS is old enough that it will not recognize any of the newer ROMS that were not around when it was made. This was a problem in the early P2Ks also.

Also, you said nothing about slots 3 & 4 on the PK-6.....

I got the Proteus 1000 in and my worst fears are true. Both the PK-6
AND its original ROM are toast. I thought the ROM was a "Composer"
but its a "P2500". The 1000's "Composer" ROM still gives a test #16
reading of invalid on slots one and two in the PK-6 and when I put
the PK-6's ROM in the 1000 I got a message of "Error SIM with two ROM
ID's". The PK-6 ROM does pass the #14 test. A very knowledgable E-Mu
guy suggested that the PK-6 "P2500" ROM might somehow be re-flashed?
That would make me REALLY happy!! I like the P2500 soundset better
than the Composer set...fits my style better. I could then install it
in the Proteus 1000's second slot and use the PK-6 as a controller as
it still works fine in that capacity. I wonder if there isn't some
easy fix for the PK-6 itself as ALL other functions except reading
the ROMs seem to be ok.

  Cheers.....Cristofe
