If you're using the unit in the default configuration (track 1 to channel 1, track 2 to channel 2, etc) it couldn't be simpler. Simply push the top left button above the knobs till it says Vol (or Pan). Then, each of your knobs will be the volume (or pan) for the corresponding track. If you move them while recording, it'll record the automation, but if you adjust them while playing or stopped, they'll simply edit the current value which will also get stored for you in the pattern.

Subject: [xl7] PX7 as submixer
Here's what I've got: A song made up of 4 patterns, all using the
same preset. Kick on track 1, Snare/track2, Hat/track3, Toms/track4,
Cymbals/track5, percussion/track6. I'm taking the stereo outs into
two tracks of my recorder and using the recorder to send midi start/stop.
Here's what I want: I want to use the PX7 as a submixer for the
drums. How do I use the control knobs to control pan and volume for
the individual tracks in real time? I'm basically wanting it to be as
easy as using an analog board would be, if you know what I mean. I
don't really have to record the pans and volumes, I just need to be
able to set them and have them stay there when I return to the top of
the song AND remain adjustable as the mixing proceeds. Is this possible?
