Free for download at http://www.emigr8.me.uk/ - been using it for a while and it seems to be pretty stable and good. PAttern editor, I'm really not sure. I usually just do my editing on the XL unless I'm doing something that requires an extreme amount of precision. If I was going to use software to edit the patterns, I would probably say Cubase, but it's just as fast to edit on the machine once you learn your way around it. HTH DTK
