I know exactly what you are going through. I had to overcome this obstacle myself not to long ago. The way the XL-7 saves its song and pattern information is messed up. There are ways to get around this "glitch". The key to recording all the MIDI tracks onto separate MIDI tracks in Sonar at the same time is in the way you setup the Sonar MIDI tracks. Example insert sixteen MIDI tracks on the Sonar program. Now, go through and set the MIDI In Channel on each track in Sonar according to which MIDI channel you want Sonar to record from the XL-7. Basically, so Track one is MIDI channel One, Track two is MIDI channel Two, and so on. Then go back and set all the bank and sound patch information on each Sonar track to match that of the XL-7. Its easier if you've downloaded the instrument definitions for the XL-7 from this site. But doesn't make a real difference. It should be okay if you have any program changes. Sonar will record those and make the changes accordingly, even though the track may be set to start with another sound patch. So, assuming you have got all of your MIDI devices setup, you should be able to press record on Sonar, which will make the XL-7 start playing, and record all the MIDI information on its appropriate MIDI track. It sounds like a lot, but once you get the process down its just a few mouse clicks. Now, the next thing you might want to know is how to record one track of Audio without all fifteen others playing at the same time. That's a whole other post, though. As far is the GM drums, thing. Its all in the way you are setting up the MIDI tracks in Sonar. You've got to have the MIDI Outputs on the MIDI drum tracks set to what everything else is and not to one of the drum maps. Set the Channel, Bank, and Patch numbers to what they are in the XL-7 and make sure the MIDI Output of that track is set to go to the XL-7. If you have any questions about any of this feel free to ask me. It seems in my opinion that when I complete my song on my xl-7 it turns into format 0 so it only loads 1 track with everything on it..However there is another problem.. I have been using the XL-7 setup to do my beats you know kick on track 1 snare on track 2, kick 2 on track 5 and snare 2 on track 6 and so on (as described in our XL-7 thick ass manual) however Sonar only reconigzes GM and XG formats and it will record in midi everything except my drums that are on track 1 and 2 and so on.. How can I fix this problem.. Is there some kind of GM or XG template I can download for the XL-7..Or maybe I'm doing something wrong.. Has anyone mess with sonar 5 and EMU and if so does it record your drums tracks??????? That's my only problem it will record everything else except my drum tracks > > Music is a moral law, > it gives wings to the mind, a soul to the universe > flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness > a life to everything, > Plato, 400 B.C > > --------------------------------- > Brings words and photos together (easily) with > PhotoMail - it's free and works with Yahoo!
