Maybe you didn't understand. If you play the audition it will come out 
as MIDI out the MIDI Out jack and then you can record that into your 
external sequencer.  (There's a setting in I think the MIDI or Global 
menu to enable that.) Then you have exactly what I think you want - a 
MIDI version of the Riff that you can then edit to your heart's content, 
which you can then record back into your XL-7 or import it using 
E-Loader. You don't have to "sample" it - if by that you mean record it 
in the audio domain.
