my setup work in this way
usb midi
computer ----------->evolution ------------->xl-7
you can set up evolution to transmit the signal coming from the
computer through his midi out. in cubase you can see and choose
an "evolution midi out". The keybord doesn't have a midi in.
this set up usually works perfectly for normal midi transmission
(midi events, controllers), it is the first time I try to send sysex
through it.
Do I need a midi in in my computer in order to transmiti sysex from
my computer to the xl-7? I've noticed that during transmission, the
led "midi out"on the xl-7 flashes periodically. maybe do the xl-7
transmit some kind of feedback after receiving sysex? At this moment
I don't need to make midi dump from xl-7 to computer, I just want to
uplaod this presets from Rob Papen
yesterday I've tried several things: firstly I've update the
evolution usb midi driver. then I'v tried to send sysex of two user
banks with Windows Media Player. the results has been slightly better
the before. the first bank was nearly perfect, the second had errors.
then I've analized the "bad" preset. They only have two kind of error:
- some layers were assigned to an xl-7 instrument (always the same
instrument)
- some layers were assigned to a kit that shuold be silent but it
plays. Rob Papen always put a 909 GM kit or other similar in layer
four, don't know why but he do this nearly in all his presets.
Usually this layer is muted, but in this "broken" preset you can hear
it. If just switch off this layer the preset is ok.
If the problem is the sysex transmission, I think I should have some
more random errors in transmitted sysex
I start thinking that maybe the sysex transmission is ok, and the
problem is elsewere...
thx
