I don't own an XL-7 (not yet I am saving the pennies and ditching my RM1X...bye bye shitty sound set, crappy interface and non-editable synth engine. That said I have dowloaded the PDF manual and woohoo what a synth engine. My understanding of the unit would be this. Recreate the preset arp in the user configurable set up and save it. Program the preset how you like and assign the user arp setting to it. Open up sequncer track one for argument sake and assign that user preset to the given midi channel. Sequence a pattern.....record all your knob tweaks and away you go. My impression is that audition button is much like a compare button on a sampler. You audition all those edits/tweeks of your presets before comiting them to the user bank sets for use in your compositions... Just my 2 cents worth but with all new gear you need to get into the mind-set and working methods of that one machine. It took me 2 years to really get the most out of my RM. So I am not going to expect overnight miracles when I change to this platform either...
