I don't understand really what you want. If you want to control some parameter in your V synth engine go to the controller menu and go to the programmable knobs edit menu, set them to ext or both and program their number control as the midi implementation of your V-synth. After when you turn a knob in program mode this will affect a parameter in your v synth.

After , if you want to use your sequencer to sequence your v-synth, you need to set your tracks to ext or both. It's in the pattern edit menu, you will found a screen who show the tracks assignment ( T1=C1A and set to int for example ). You will have to record a sequence in the xl7 and play it by pressing to the wanted track: if it's set to ext your v-synth engine will receive the sequence. Don't forget to set up the v-synth to receive external midi information ( note , vel , start/stop message or simply an external clock )
