Have you installed OMS? It is on the CD also. Once you install it, you have
to set it up. If you are new to MIDI on the Mac, this may be something you
need help with. Let me know if that is the case.

The OMS Setup application has a Test Studio mode that can help you
troubleshoot your MIDI network. E-Loader also has some MIDI utilities that
can help you determine if MIDI is getting in and out of E-Loader correctly.

Did you select the appropriate MIDI Input and Output ports in E-Loader? The
list of available devices is derived from what you create in the OMS Setup
application.

Do you know that in order to get into OS Download Mode you need to hold down
the Enter button while powering up the unit?

Can you narrow down your problems to where MIDI is and where it isn't?

With a new iBook you do not need to install Java (a.k.a. MRJ), it is already
pre-installed. The Sun and MS Java installers on the CD are for Windows
machines only. I don't know why you get the 'can't install' message - it
might be because the version of MRJ on the CD is older than the one already
on your iMac. If E-Loader is launching, then your Java environment is fine -
E-Loader would not launch at all if the Java environment was incorrect.

I have no idea what Tac is. I don't think you need to worry about this, as
your Java installation seems to be working fine.

I'll be glad to help you through the installation and troubleshooting
process. Just promise me you'll cut down on the espresso before you send
your next e-mail ;-)

For OS Download the device ID doesn't matter. But when you want to do
Sequence Upload/Download, the setting in E-Loader must match the setting of
your XL-7. If you only have one **-7/P2500 then you can just leave it at 0.
You only need to change this if you want more than one **-7/P2500 type unit
on the same MIDI cable.

Let me know how far this info takes you.
