Erik's right.  Another thing to note if it's not remembering *which*
preset a track uses (not just the changes you made to a preset) is that
you have to have something on a track for it to save vol, pan, preset,
etc.

That being said, here's a trick for all you folks who want to tweak
custom presets without saving them to a new location.  If your edits
are just via the quick edit knobs, just record them at tick 0 in the
step editor.  For example, if you like a pad, but it needs to have a
little bit shorter attack, simply enter step edit mode, tweak knob E
till it sounds right, then save the pattern.  Know, when you play that
pattern, MIDI E will get played once at the first loop before any
notes, and your preset will have the longer attack.
