jp, Glad to help. The units are identical less the ribbon and drum pads on the 2500, oh, and sound set of course. You had mentioned that you really wanted the XL-7. Why did you go with the 2500 instead? As far as advantages, it really depends on the music you like. I like all styles so it's really up to you. Do you have a good keyboard controller? If you do then I'd say use the expansion slots(you have 3 open)and get the X-LEAD ROM # 9089 and use your controller keys. The 2500 is nice but my only gripe is that I wish it had more than the 3 extra expansion slots. Right now I have this E-MU gear: P2K w/Techno Synth Construction Yard & Beat Garden ROM's by Rob Papen (giving me the standard Proteus and Orbit 3 in one module) XL-1 standard w/Pure Phatt ROM (giving me the XL-1 and Mo'Phatt in one module) Launch Pad midi controller If the 2500 had six slots, I would sell these and put everything in one and gain the sequencer(right now I use a hardware sequencer). Let me know what you decide to do and if there is anything else we can do to help. You can e-mail me privately.
