Ah ha! I knew it :) Maybe try turning Rechannelize off? rEalm OK. Potential breakthrough here - maybe. This got me thinking and I looked at the pattern view, and I actually had channel 1/track 1 selected. So I scrolled to channel 9 and did the volume fade again and sure enough, it recorded to channel 9/track 9. So I guess my question is: If I'm in volume edit mode and even if I'm using the 9(I) controller to change volume and I'm hearing track 9's volume change while I am actually recording, will it go to whatever channel is selected in pattern mode? If this is the case, then is it possible to record volume automation for multiple channels in one take? I'm just confused that I haven't encountered this before. Either way, I think I have a work-around for now. Again, I appreciate your guys' help. You have definitely steered me in the right direction. Yahoo!
