The ER1 does not sound generic at all..... its a beast!

That's stupid.  Same with the Roland gear.  I got rid of my MC-307 for that 
reason
(amoung others).  Upon listening to Korg's mp3 samples, I've got to say that 
they do little
for me.  SO generic sounding.

So I guess that answers my question.  The XL-7 is "it."  Weird there is only 
one groovebox
type device out there with velocity sensitive keys.  You'd think by this 
point that would be
standard.  So, although it's going to make my micro rig a bit more macro, I 
guess it's a
small price to pay for the functionality and features of the E-MU gear.
