First:  When in grid recording I am tempted to flip back to real time 
and punch in a couple of notes, when I do this however only one beat 
makes it onto the pattern am I doing something wrong?  Of course any 
help would be nice

you're in Replace Record mode (hold Play, then press Rec), the sequencer 
stops recording at the end of the pattern. Although, now that I think 
about it, I don't know if you can enter Replace Record mode if you're 
already in Grid Mode, they use the same key commands!  Aaron? <<<

Second: I am new to making music of any kind so please bear with me, 
I was curious on how most hip hop songs are composed, I know this is 
a newby, "just listen to a song idiot" question but is there a basic 
modle such as 4 bar intro, 16 bar section, 8 bar chorus, or something 
to that effect so I can try to put together a full song?

think it's important to realize that ALL music has it's own unique 
structures, and that there is no set way to compose a tune based on a 
formula like you give above.  What I'm trying to say, is that while 
certain genre's may have similarities in their structures, there is no one 
set way to do it, or even one generally accepted way.  My vote would be to 
listen to about 3 of your favorite hip hop songs (ok, maybe I wasn't 
kidding) with a pen and paper handy, and try to count off how many 
measures they use for each section.  That will at least give you a rough 
idea of some where to start.  The important thing is to not just stick 
with whatever numbers you come up with, feel fere to experiment and change 
it up if you music feels like it should be different. <<<
 
Third: If I make a beat with track 1 the kick track 2 the snare, 
track 3 the high hat and its short and I want to cut and paste this 
basic pattern through the song is there an easy way?

>>>Unfortunately not.  I too wish the Pattern Edit screens had the option 
to select an "A" track so that you could cut and paste all of the tracks 
at once.  You'll have to do it manually track by track.  If however, the 
part you want to cut and paste is at the very beginning of the pattern, 
and you want to repeat it for the rest of the pattern, it's a lot easier. 
Say you have an 8 bar Pattern and you like Bars 1 & 2, and want to copy 
those for the rest of the track.  Set the Pattern length to 2, and then 
use the Extend Sequence function set to 8 Bars. If eh parts you want are 
in the middle of a pattern, there is no easy way.<<<
 
Lastly:If I have a drum pattern and would like to add guitar sounds 
that are loaded in the mophatt can I get the guitar sounds or any 
sound for that matter streched out?  I:E: can I expand the sounds 
make them longer?

>>>Hmm, you mean like timestretch them?  No, that's not possible.  You can 
change the AmpEnv Release for the preset (Quick Edit Knob H) to make it 
decay for longer, but you can make is sustain for longer.  <<<

I know that there are probably a hundred idiots who ask these same 
questions, but I am committed to understanding this machine and 
making something that is quality.  My mother is sick of hearing the 
crap I have made so far so can anyone help her and I make something 
better?
