I think someone has misinterpreted something here.

The P2500 and XL/MP boxes all have the same processor (CPU), and it is 
approximately 3x faster than the one in the P2000. If the literature 
says they have the same 'engine' it is referring to the fact that they 
all have the same 'synthesizer engine', meaning they have the same 
preset/voice architecture and all work with the same sound SIMM 
libraries and such.
