If you wanted delay on a kick and reverb on a snare:
 
Assign reverb as FXA, and put varying amounts on sends 1-4.
Assign a delay on FXB,  and choose your amounts for sends 1-4.
 
On the kick layer, assign mix output to the send with the delay amt. you want.
On the snare layer, assign it to the reverb send.

What's really fun is to assign a realtime controller to the send amount, then you can bring up the level (delay) by turning a knob, and turn it back down when you don't want any delay.

I just mentioned the master section because there you can override a presets send mapping.  It really makes more sense to program that per patch, that way, each layer can go to a different send, if you assign it in the master menu, it will affect the whole sound.
 
In my manual there is an entire section for 'Effects'.  it starts out with an overview, then goes straight into effects sends, then types, parameters, etc.
