Check your OS on the Kurz. I remember having a similar problem with ours.
Once I updated the OS, the problem ceased.
Find it at this website if you don't have it already.

Subject: [xl7] MIDI backwash
Greetings,
My MIDI layout is: Kurzweil PC2X keboard MIDI out --> XL-7 MIDI in.
No return MIDI cable is
in place.
The other day I was playing some patterns on my XL-7. Returning to
my default mode which is
how I control the sounds from my Kurzweil keyboard, I found that the
Kurzweil was buggered. It
couldn't change programs, or only in a limited way. Powering down and
then back again fixed it.
The question is: how could this have happened? Is there the possibility
of a small voltage or
something travelling backwards on a MIDI cable and fugging with the master
controller? This is
the only way the two instruments are connected, other than through a
common ground at the mixer.
Not a problem at all, just a little confused.
Stephen
