Sorry, I think I caused some confusion in my own wording - by "ripping", I didn't mean actually taking every sample wired straight from the ROM - I was referring to making sample sets, which consists of recording them via analog and then re-EQing them. Not taking them precisely as-is, so to speak. /.e --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "Oscar Finch" <Oscar_Finch@e...> wrote: > > > No legal arguement to have I'm afraid. > You could sample form the analog / SPDIF outs patches for personal use which you would then loop/multisample > and generally mangle yourself. > Hence why you can sample that 808/909/303/CR78/JUNO etc etc etc > That said I could not use the schematics and identical circuits of said units and build my own version full general distribution under another name. > If you where to RIP Emu's roms as it was so eloquently put you'd be taking the hardwired copy ,raw waveforms ,loopoints ,processing and all. > Quite clearly an infringement of said LAWS for those very same reasons. > Go ahead RIP enough DVD's from ones you've purchased and start selling them online and see what happens to you. > What's so goddam anal about it. > Quite frankly I don't blame EMU. > Especially after the Curtis filter chip fiasco & Sequential (Prophet 5) - nearly sent them bust. > Who designed and made the Curtis Filter Chip - EMU no patent etc etc Sequential and several others made a bomb off EMU's tech back with that chip alone.
