zr rom is cool and is very good at some breadnbutter stuff... the brass is very usable and the grandpianos are awesome.. but it's a tad bit dated with the sounds. it's from the ensoniq mr/zr stuff and that's what 4yrs behind...I bought for the same reasons you are raising and found it stale and dated.. the mp7 efx help a lot but the epiano's sound like bells/dx7 patches not a one bite and rhodes grit. the wurly is well yuk!!!! the strings are passable, the basses are great(but the mp already has dope bass patches)some of the organs work well. the drums are sad compared to what's in the mp7 already. It's a hard one to figure out with no proteus rom chip out there for sale. For the rom chip prices(or what I paid) I would be more careful and return it on my first impulse for somethingelse more useful....if that's your feeling after your purchase and playing with it. I waited and held on to to it now I'm stuck!!!
oh well.......in short for Gpianos, somestrings, pads, synths(withefx),acousticbasses, brass i'd say you'll be cool and get some use out of it for sure. for Epianos, drums save your money.
until theres a proteus romchip(never?) it will have to do!!
