1)Build your songs and patterns at the same time 2)Use only the 
smallest length of pattern you can work with.3)Dont forget you can 
record tracks over the whole song once the patterns are 'chained' 4)
It,s also quite easy to erase portions of a pattern you are working 
with (instead of muting for a song) because of the XL7 grid record 
set up.
PS How much memory did you start with? Mine was only 48% I'm sure 
this must be normal but I can't help feeling I've been done.
