I have an E-MU Ultra with RFX, and the RFX responds to CC messages to control fx parameters and fx levels. I used to have a Doepfer Regelwerk which I could use to send CC messages (of a preset value) by pressing a button, which would instantly change the fx. Using knobs doesn't give the same effect as there is always a slight 'fade-in', and you can press multiple buttons together, whereas you can only twist 2 knobs at one time... On the XX-7 it would be useful for changing the Mix Output parameter on the fly (CC79), or maybe the Arp Status (cc80) plus anything else you might want.
