I have tried it and its just an xl7 w/out the sound....(dah).Everything else works. Also i will probably try to sell it on ebay. Its just that i like to have everything dedicated to what it does, so let the sequencer be the sequencer and sampler be the sampler. In my opinion, it should be safer this way cose its just one less burdon on the xl7. maybe it will prolong its life. steve_the_composer <smw-mail@...> wrote:--- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "Nermin" <extra_mayo79@y...> wrote: > Hi everyone, > I wanted to know what will happen if there is no sound roms in the > xl-7. I haven't tried it, has anyone else? I have done (in another P2K-based E-Mu). You will have no samples for the internal sound engine. You will have a midi controller. For example, I used a ROM-less XL-1 to do beats on legacy gear (specifically, a Proteus/1 + Orchestral XR. For the experiment, I used the pads on an old KORG DDD-5 drum machine as beat triggers. MIDI chain: KORG --> ROM-less E-Mu --> Proteus/1 As far as it being safe, I can't tell you. I now have the ROM back in the XL-1 and it works as it always did before. Nevertheless, try it at your own risk. You may want to call E-Mu tech support. If you do let us know what they say. Anyone have a design/engineering perspective on the safety issue? Hope this helps.
