Actually, that'll work for playback, but not for recording the MIDI from the 7000. Turn rechannelize OFF, go to track 1, set it to "MultiA" (on the next to last screen in the Pattern menu), use MIDI sync (set tempo to ext on the XL, and transmit on the 7000), and record away. You'll then have the sequence all on track 1. If you copy that track to the clipboard, you can then erase track 1 and "explode tracks" to break out the original channels onto individual tracks.
