I've been meaning to hook my MP-7 to control reason for a while, but have
been too lazy and haven't updated to USB Midi interface. Can you do this
using USB with the E-mu or must you use midi.

>>>You have to use MIDI, sorry. USB is only for storing and backing up
Songs/Patterns, that's it. <<<

Also detail on how you did this would be appreciated. I do not have any
documentation with Reason and have only used my MP-7 for control of other
E-mu thus far.

>>>First up, Reason always installs it's documentation into the same
folder as the program itself, so you shoudl at least have PDF copies of
the Users manual, and the MIDI Implementation manual. I believe even the
cracked versions do this as well, just FYI.

How did I do this? In the Controllers Menu on the XX-7, you can specify
what CC# each of the 16 knobs will transmit when in Program Mode (the
select button above the knobs chooses this). So then I just looked in the
Reason MIDI implemtation chart to see what the CC#'s were for each of the
controls I wanted to map to the XX-7's knobs. IE, the Subtractor's cutoff
knob is CC#74, so I made the MP7's knob 1 transmit CC#74 (which is
actually the default I believe). Using this method, I assigned all 16
knobs to control the parameters for one Reason instrument, and then saved
those assignments as a Multisetup in the XX-7. I called it "Reason
Subtractor" too, so I can quickly recall it by Loading that Multi in the
Global menu. That way, if I'm tweaking a Maelstrom and I want to say
tweak a NN19, all I have to do is load the appropriate Multi on the XX-7.

The good news is that I've done all this work for you already, and you can
find the Multi's in the fil;es section of this group. Each multi also has
a text file specifying what each knob controls on that particular Reason
instrument too. So you just have to send them one at a time to your XX-7,
save them, then send the next to store them all in your MP7. I plan on
redoing someo this work in the very near future, and providing better
instructions for loading thse as well, I just haven't had much time
lately. It'll be up soon, and I'll post a message here so people know
about it. <<<

Also I found this board as a result of a link of yours from a Nu school
board, thanks.

>>>Cool, welcome aboard. I think you're the third person from that board
I've wrangled into coming here :) <<<
