Man, you got me really interested in the rom! Are percussion sounds (like 
congas, bongos, etc...) a lot better too?

What do you mean by Riff? 

>>>Each Preset has a RIFF assigned to it, so that when you press Audition, 
it will play back a short musical phrase.  Basically each RIFF is an 
arpeggiator, except that RIFF's can play back on more than one channel.

Are those the drum patterns? 

>>>They can be.  It's just a sequence of notes, and what they play depends 
on the preset.  If you use a RIFF on a drum preset, then you'll get a drum 
pattern.  If you use them on a bass Preset, then you'll get a bass line.

Do they come with the machine? 

>>>Yes, each ROM has it's own riffs, though most of the ROMs use the same 
ones. <<<

BTW what do you mean by modern sounding?
