Emu ROM Reviews

2003-09-29 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com

Hey all,

It seems one of the more frequent questions we get on this list lately, is
opinions or recomendations about the various ROM boards Emu has available
for the XX-7's. So I was thinking it might be helpful to create a User
Database of this kind of information. I'm proposing that we start a user
reviews thread about the various Roms we've personally used or have in our
machines, and that once we have enough reviews, I'll compile them and
organize them by Rom, and put it in the files section of this list. That
way, we have a nice centralized lcoation for everyone to browse when
contemplating purchasing a new ROM. Also, if we stick to a set naming
convention, it'll be easy to do a search in the archives too.

So, here's what I'm proposing in terms of a format:

Subject Line should be called "ROM Review - ROM name". For instance, "ROM
Review - Protean Drums".

Then in the message body, we have the following sections:

- Strengths. This is where you list the things you like about the rom,
including any particular Presets or Instruments you think it excels in.
Also, this would be a good place to list the type of sounds you would
recommend this ROM for. So if you think it has some good piano's, guitar,
etc, include that information here.

- Weaknesses. Self explanatory, list the things you don't particularly
like about this rom.

- Additional. A good place to sumarize any other things you want to
include about this ROM, etc.

What's everyone think? Is this something that would be benfitial to do?
I'll post a new review of the Protean Drum ROM shortly as an example, but
please let me know what your thoughts are on this.
