No I have'nt tried this, but now you mention compacting, it makes me think that I recently added more than 70 drum patterns in the machine and after this I ran into problems...I usually never compact myself but rather let the machine do it when it's necessary, but this time i think this is definitely something to try .... >>>Yeah, it might help. Whenever I try and conpact it always tell me to go home, but then 30 minutes later it tells me I need to compact. It might work, but I wouldn't put all your eggs in this basket. <<< Does it uses only one writing in memory ?(it involves the whole memory so...) >>>I think there's two memory system in the XX-7's, a global system one, and the User one. <<< and dumping a preset bank is one or 127 writings in memory ? >>>My guess is it's 127. When i was getting ready to record my live set, I REALLY want to do it right after a compaction for the best performance (again, I have not hard evidence this is really helping, just a gut feeling). I couldn't get it to manually compact, so I just dumped a User Bank worth of Presets into it a few times and halfway through one of the dumps I got an error message telling me the dump was unsuccessful due to some memory error (I forgot the actual message). Then I was able to manually compact and all was well. << what is really compacting on xx7, >>>Think of compacting as defragging. The user memory gets fragmented slowly over time as you save patterns and presets, and this proceedure lets the XX-7 get everything all sorted out. Another reason I think the machine runs better after a compaction, just like hard disks perform slightly better after a defrag. <<< and what will happen to our machines once we have passed the 50.000 writings in memory? >>>You'll be dead and buried by then so who cares? If you were able to actually compact it every single day, it would take you 140 years to reach the 50,000 limit. <<< Above all, what can cause timing discrepancies on the XL7 ? >>>Dense midi streams are the prime culprit in my experiences. Accidentally recording too much channel pressure messages from hitting the pads (I turned off channel pressure on my box), have lot's of ptchbend info recorded and not thinned, having a lot of "note on's" happening at exactly the same time in your pattern (offsetting a track by even a single tick can make a difference). <<< So much questions ....that will be gone with the wind ..I fear.... >>>Frankly, I don't give a damn.... <<< Anyway, thank you very much for your highly appreciated help rEalm ! >>>De nada, this list helps me maintain my sanity at work. :) Sorry I post so much in fact! <<< rEalm [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
