Just my 2cents, and I'll try to keep this short.
There are two things about the Wiard that immediately springs out at me -
and this was my initial gut reaction
when seeing the beast on the web.
Obviously, I was very concerned about the sound it would create (that's
point #2) but I was immediately struck
by the care that had gone into the instruments design - such as the pots
which don't get to cold, and certainly
the paint job.
IMO, it is very important not to forget that the price of this system is
naturally much higher than most synths
on the market. Certainly, it is not in any way excessive when compared to
other analog modular competition, but we
all know how easy it can be to be swayed towards a "digital modular" at
(less?) than half price, with "other digital advantages".
On a PERSONAL basis, I was sold on the Wiard after I heard some of the
sounds.
BUT, what sold me on even pursuing things up to that point was the _whole
look_ of this system.
I thought to myself "gee, with that much care put into it, Wiard is a
musical system that I could
really cherish. I would be amazingly proud to have a system like this in my
studio - I mean, it's
a work of art! Where's the comparison?"
For me, if I'm going to spend the kind of money that the Wiard demands, it
really needs to be
that special for me. Further more, I really love the "Wiard" as "a work of
art" concept - because
to me it seems to fit well with both the "art" and the way that the system
has been mapped out
to work.
This individuality of the system definitely sets it a cut above others, and
greatly increases
the value in my mind. Even a "regular Wiard" looks like a custom job. That's
something to be proud of!
