Finished updating Wiard.com

Finished updating Wiard.com

2007-06-24 by Grant Richter

I have finished updating the Wiard.com site.

Introduced Model 311 "New Controller" with dual Joystick / JAGs. Photo on "Purchase" page.

Introduced Models 353, 354 and 355 which are Borg 2 and Boogie filters on 300 compatible
faceplates. See "Purchase" page for photos.

Kept 3 of the 1200 series for the moment in black only. 90% of 1200 sales were black
faceplates, made sense to keep the most popular.

I'm looking at a Model 372 which is an over and under dual Noise Ring. Graphics are the
problem, requiring extensive editing of the hpgl engraving layer to clear the white graphics
and text.

Thank you.

Wow. the new controller looks great. I especially appreciate the fact that it doesn't need any rails to help mount it into a rack case. I'm assuming I can still use blacet power cables and psu500 to power it right?
appreciate that you're keeping the borg and boogie 1200's. but I also like the new over under borg/boogie combo.

yeah, it totaly looks great. but how's about slapping a few attenuators in there - ie for limiting the range of the joystick. would come in VERY handy

heck, i'd sell my JAG and diy joystick if this were the case

thanks
BRAD

Could you elaborate on that please? Normally the attenuators on on the inputs to the
modules being controlled, not on the outputs of controllers. Could you explain why
attenuators on the Joysticks would be useful? What application did you have in mind? Why
would it be handy?

Thank you for a more detailed explaination.

I agree, I think it would be great from a performance standpoint to have
that fine tuning/tweaking ability next to the joystick.
Also, if you send the XY outs to multiples and distribute them to control
several things this would be handy.

And, of course some don't have input attenuators, or maybe only for one
control input. The JAG lacks them, as does the Noise Ring.

best,
phil

i also agree. i had someone mod my wiard joystick with an attenuator
on each output.

it's great for inputs which don't include attenuators, and great in
combination with the JAG. you can control the amount of modulation of
ten parameters with just one/two knobs, and then get it back to
exactly where it was before - great for descending into outright noise
and back again, and great for live!

what do the knobs on the new wiard controller do?

For anyone else worried about this, Michael Ford at Metalbox will build
you a 1 RU 19" utility panel with 6 or so attenuators on it, in blue, for
less than the cost of a pair of Blacet dual lin VCAs. Pair that with the
controller, and you have a 3U set that will drop right into the empty row
in your Frac system. Right?

I mention this not only because I am a satisfied customer of Metalbox, but
because, very frankly, I would rather Grant spent his time completing the
Envelooper and Wave Terrain Oscillator than revisiting the completed
Joystick/JAG design to squeeze in more features :)

Dome height for the JAGs.

Paul

that metalbox suggestion is on point. adding more features to the controller will just add more time and cost, raising the price of it. i think 700 is enough. having extra attenuation can be had creatively with other modules if it's really that necessary. that's kinda the whole fun of modular synthesis to me. not having to cram every single feature into one module. being able to mix and match every module into your own personal puzzle is where it's at for me.

well, not all synth modules have handy dandy input attenuators for one. without getting too specific, it would come in handy in the above situation, and where you want full joystick physical range, but don't want the full voltage range.
