I see a strong parallel between electronics and cooking in the sense that 
anyone who is prepared to exercise diligence and care following a good 
recipe should produce passable, even competent, results.  However, I am 
limited intellectually in that I don't like doing anything (at least not 
anything inherently interesting) that I don't really understand.  I have 
promised myself that some day I will study this stuff properly and grok why 
component a is wired to component b, but life being what it is that's 
unfortunately not going to be any time soon.  I do know that it will be 
sooner than when I get around to learning how to cook properly :)

Another similarity to cooking: people who have ability (either innate or 
earned) have an entirely different scale for easy-hard than the rest of us.
