Now that my Omni has returned from Wisconsin, let me say that I continue to love this guy, inspite of the competition from its vactrol brethren. Just using it in allpass mode to impose a bit of animation in a patch really shows off how amazingly quiet it is! Woohoo!!! Gary

that's something i've noticed about my boogie too, just how quiet it is, and how "hi-fi" it sounds, for want of a better adjective. it exudes quality and scientific precision! it's certainly the cleanest sounding filter in my collection as regards noiselessness. the 6dB mode is great for getting rid of hiss noise whilst letting the rest of the signal through unaltered, e.g. with noisy passive guitar pickups etc. how would people describe the difference between the sound of the boogie 1200 and the borg 1200, is it worthwhile to own both? i've not heard the omni, what type of filter is it? gregg --- In wiardgroup@yahoogroups.com, "Gary Chang" <gchang@...> wrote:

Gregg, The Omni is a OTA-based filter - the uber version of the original Filter made for the 300 Series system. My favorite Wiard patch uses soundsources (VCOs, etc.), through a Boogie LP/HP filter pair AND the Borg2 as the VCA(lowpass gate). I think that the possiblities of this filter combo is staggering. (Or is it this bottle of Jack Daniels sitting next to my system?) I then add the Omni in allpass filter for some animation, and then send the sound through 4 Borgs in VCA mode, controlled by a JAG for multichannel location. Using all of these vactrols in the patch removes any dc in the signal, and the sounds have a lovely musical edge to them. So, IMHO, yes - having a Borg2 and a Boogie is not redundant - in fact, it is quite a useful pair of modules that I find using together very often. hi gary! thanks for the reply about the omni, and all the great info on low pass gates. might have to make room for a borg 2 now... gregg --- In wiardgroup@yahoogroups.com, "Gary Chang" <gchang@...> wrote: > > Gregg, > > The Omni is a OTA-based filter - the uber version of the original > Filter made for the 300 Series system. > > My favorite Wiard patch uses soundsources (VCOs, etc.), through a > Boogie LP/HP filter pair AND the Borg2 as the VCA(lowpass gate).
